Ismail Dawood Mehta a British national is a  qualified  English  lawyer born and  brought  up  in  Zambia.  
After having migrated to England in 1977, he read law  at  the  famed  School of  Oriental  and   African  Studies 
(SOAS) at  the University of  London  (where as  president of the  Law  Society  he established the SOAS Law 
Alumni) graduating  with  an  LL.B.  (Hons.)  degree in 1983.  He  successfully completed his  studies at the Inns 
of Court  School of  Law qualifying as an English barrister and was admitted to the English Bar in 1984.  He is a 
member of  the  Honourable  Society  of  Grays  Inn.  Having  completed  his  pupilage  in  1985,  he joined  the 
International Finance Section (specialising  in  raising  funds  for multinationals in the international capital markets, 
particularly on the London and Luxembourg Stock Exchanges) of  Linklaters and  Alliance  (formerly Linklaters 
& Paines),  one of  the leading  international  English law  firms  based  in  the City of London,  and  the  leading 
English law firm in the Eurobond market. He left Linklaters & Alliance in 1989 to join the newly created Special 
Finance department (specialising in limited recourse secured project financing) of The Mitsubishi Bank Limited in 
the City of  London. Having established  the  legal  department for  The Mitsubishi Bank,  he  was  appointed  in 
March 1995 as the legal advisor to the Merger Taskforce, based in the  City of  London, established to oversea 
the Europe, Middle East and Africa aspect of the merger between The Mitsubishi Bank Limited  and   The Bank 
of  Tokyo Limited. Upon the successful completion of  the merger,  he  was  appointed in  April 1996  as  Head 
of   The  Bank of   Tokyo-Mitsubishi  Ltd. Group  Legal  department,  providing  service  to  the  Bank  and  its 
subsidiaries. Following Japan’s own “Big-Bang” (i.e. de-regulation of  the Japanese finance market) he oversaw 
the merger of the legal  and  compliance  departments in   January 1997  and   became   Head of  The  Bank of 
Tokyo-Mitsubishi Ltd. Group Legal  &  Compliance department. Ismail Mehta  joined Al Kaabi Law Firm  in
